Can I Install Google Sitemap Generator?

Google Sitemaps Generator is a well-regarded method of generating Sitemaps, which can help the search engines index a website. It’s free and full-featured, too.

However, the installation instructions say things like “You’ll need administrative access to the web server.” and “During installation, the installation script first backs up the Apache configuration file and then modifies the configuration file.”.

These statements make me believe that the Google Sitemap Generator is not usable with a Site5 reseller or VPS account. Is this correct?

I know that if you’re a reseller or have a vps, you have ssh access too, so you should be able to install the Google sitemap generator script but the best way to find out is to raise a support ticket 🙂

As it requires changes to the Apache config files, it would need root access, which is not possible on a managed server. We do offer unmanaged VPS solutions, however, which give you root access. This could be done on an unmanaged VPS.
