Do you truly offer Drupal hosting?

[2 Grey Star Level]

I’m asking that because I’ve encountered problems with the max_allowed_packet mysql variable because it was set to low (8MB instead of at least 32MB).

If I buy either a shared or reseller account, what is the value for max allowed packet variable? Can I edit that in a file like my.ini and overwrite the value to my needs?

Thank you,
Andrei

Hi Andrei,

Yes, we certainly do. That variable is set low (16MB) on shared servers because it really doesn’t need to be that high. On a shared environment, 16MB is more than enough – anything that absolutely requires more should look at a VPS solution.

I’ve just been informed that this is no longer true (via site5.com chat with a tech). It’s now down to 8M and can’t be changed on our managed VPS.

Hello,

I apologise for the misinformation, but on a shared server it is still set to 16MB. I have just confirmed this by checking the setting directly on a server.
