I want to install WordPress and build a site without pointing DNS to the new site. The site is already live for someone else but I am building a new site for them and will point DNS after I’m through with the build.
I recall I did this in the past using the IP address to reach the site. But that was prior to my move to Site5. I’ve searched in the Knowledge Base but maybe I’m using the wrong terms.
Can you help point me to some instructions? Thanks!

Hello! You can certainly do this, yes. When installing it, WordPress asks for a URL – you would just need to provide the temporary URL at this stage. The temporary URL should be in your welcome letter, but it is in the following format:
http://IPADDRESS/~yourhostingusername
After you change the DNS, you will need to change this in the database to the proper URL, as well.
The whole process is detailed in full at http://kb.site5.com/scripts/wordpress/how-to-install-wordpress-before-changing-dns-for-a-domain-and-how-to-switch-it-over-to-a-live-website-when-you-are-ready-in-wordpress/
