I’ll preface this with, please call me out for being idotic cuz there’s a better way to do this.

So that it helps better understand my ask, I’m trying to host pages for companies I build sites for. My preference would be to do it in the manner of ‘WordPress.com’, ‘GetFlywheel’, and ‘Squarespace’.

Let’s say my new client is Blah Corp. They own, ‘blah.com’ registered outside site5.

They’ve asked me to put a new site together for them. I do just that as in a subdomain of my site5 account, ‘mydomain.com’. Thereby creating ‘blah.mydomain.com’.

I fill up ‘blah.mydomain.com’ with WordPress and get it all like they want it.

They’ve signed off and we want to go live.

I’d like to just point their ‘blah.com’ domain name to my site at ‘blah.jlcsites.com’.

What’s the next step here? Bear in mind that I do not wish to migrate the site to another directory. C’mon, time is money and why rebuild the wheel?

I know I need to change their nameservers from their registrar’s to site5’s.

But creating an add-on domain ‘blah.com’ within Backstage and pointing it to the existing /public_html/blah’ directory didn’t work when I tried to hit the site from a browser.

I then tried a redirect from ‘blah.com’ to ‘http://blah.jlcsites.com’ but that didn’t seem to work either.

Am I just being stupid or shouldn’t this work? If not, is there a way to make this workflow work?
