Do I need to upgrade Word Press or Serendipity or both?

I have a blog on my web site, when I log on as the admin on that blog, the name I see is Serendipity, not Word Press. Total noob here, so pardon the dumb question, but are these separate programs? Do I need to upgrade Word Press or Serendipity or both?
An audit of my site conducted when it was hacked in July said that I had an outdated Word Press 3.3.1. Serendipity is 1.5.5. Upgrades are available for both but which do I need?

They are indeed separate applications. It is always recommended that you upgrade your applications when possible.

If you are no longer using the WordPress site, it may be prudent to back up the data and remove it from your account. This may help to prevent the type of security breach that you experienced.
