How to mount filesystem images in userland?

Hi, I am in the process of moving and am cleaning out years of tech stuff in my basement, among them old floppy disks and CDROMs. I’ve decided to archive some of them by creating image files of the media and uploading them to my Site5 hosting account. I’d like to test that the images are good by loop mounting them on Linux in my account, the only problem is in order to use the mount command you have to be root. After researching the subject on Google I see that there’s the FUSE project (Filesystem in User Space), and the server I’m on has the module available in /lib/modules//kernel/fs/fuse/fuse.ko. What do I need to do in order to be able to mount the image?

P.S. I’ve already tried using mount via the ‘sudo’ command but it didn’t work.

Hello! I am sorry to say that on a managed service, such as a shared, reseller, or managed VPS, this would not be possible. As mentioned, root access is needed for this, and as such it cannot be done on a managed service.

On an unmanaged VPS, however, you do have root access, and should be able to complete this as described. You can learn more about our unmanaged services at http://www.site5.com/vps/unmanaged/
