Load Delay Time explained?

[3 Grey Star Level]

Hi Guys,

Quick question about a site load delay time.

I’ve got a HostPro Turbo account with several different sites up and running. All WordPress sites. All different, with different themes, content etc. all low traffic (I use this mainly as a development area).

However, on the initial load of any of the sites, there’s a delay of anywhere upwards of 5 seconds (avg maybe 7-10 seconds). After the initial loading of a page, the site is fine. Pages load quick and there are no problems. If, however, the site is left dormant for some time, then the same occurs again.

Interestingly enough, if I run a site speed test (using one of the free services out there) the results normally come back as OK – which completely disagrees with what I’m experiencing.

I’ve tested this with WordPress sites, I’ve tested it with caching plugins enabled and even tested it with static html files. All the same result. Have also optimised the DB’s. It’s almost as if there’s a delay while the server allocates resources for the sites in question (although that’s a guess – I’m not au fait with server technology).

Obviously I understand that it’s shared hosting, however I wouldn’t expect it to be this slow.

So, my question is, is there anything in place that would make the initial load of a site so slow? And, if so, is there anything that can be done about it? (above upgrading to a VPS – which is on the cards, just not right now).

Cheers,
Phil.

Hello Phil,

I hope you are well!

After reading your question, it appears you have already tried most of the basics when it comes to optimizing your website. Because of this, I recommend that you open a ticket with our support department so that we can take a more detailed look into your account and attempt to locate what might be causing the slow load times.

You can open a ticket though Backstage, or you can email our support department directly at [email protected]

We look forward to hearing from you! 🙂
