What is the best way to coordinate moving a site (internal)?

[5 Grey Star Level]

I opened a migration request and specifically said “please let me know when this will happen so I can let my users know.” Next thing I know I get an email saying “your migration is underway please do not modify your site while in process”. So I had to scramble and shut the site off with zero notice to my user base. Long story short the migration ended up blowing away my dev site on the receiving end so we stopped and took a breather on this whole thing.

I want to try this again. My current site is on a shared plan and the destination is on a VPS. I saved a copy of my dev site this time so we can start with a blank slate on the receiving (VPS) side.

Here are my objectives, please tell me how I can get confirmation from site5 that this is possible:

1. I need a timeframe for the migration. For example, “beginning Friday at 1PM for approximately 2 hours”. I cannot be surprised again by this.

2. The existing site has a dedicated IP address. I need a dedicated IP once it is moved, no change to that level of service. Doesn’t have to be the same IP but needs to be dedicated.

3. The site, once moved, has to work exactly as it did before. That means I need someone to check PHP level to make sure it is the same, and I need someone to check mod_security, to make sure the rules are exactly the same. I also need someone to check the email MX config to make sure that works. I have had issues on all three of these points in the past and am sensitive to this.

4. Your internal nameservers need to be updated to point the domain to the new (dedicated) IP address.

So, who at site5 can be assigned to shepherd this for me, understand the request and actually follow through and not just treat it as an in-basket item they need to hit the “go” button on?

Thanks guys…I appreciate your support and help and a longtime customer here, don’t mean to sound cranky but this is important to me and can’t have the ball dropped again.
