I want to be able to manage the DNS zone file of my primary domain using someone other than Site5. Primarily this is so I can add AAAA entries, and modify entries using DynDNS style updates.
If I make sure to copy over all the Site5-specific entries, is this possible?
If it’s not possible with my primary domain, could I do it with my secondary domains instead? Or will both scenarios break cPanel?
You can certainly use a third party DNS manager for your domains. Simply use the current records listed in our DNS manager and everything should work fine. However, please keep the following in mind when using a third party manager.
1) If you create sub-domains, you will need to create them in both your control panel here, and in your third party DNS manager.
2) If you plan on hosting your emails outside of our services, make sure you set the email routing (here at Site5) to Remote Mail Exchanger. This can be found under the MX Records section of SiteAdmin.
3) While in most situations migrations are seamless to the end user, this is only the case if the DNS management is done by us. Keep an eye out for notices regarding account migrations as you will need to update your third party DNS manager yourself once the migration is complete.
