Basically I have multiple sites on my one account, and I want to add one more, a WordPress blog. But I don’t want the domain to point to it yet, as it is still pointing to the current site- I want to redesign it in WordPress. So how would I make an address so that I can see what I am doing with the “new” site, but not use the actual domain name yet? In the past I have been making weird subdomains, but I have no idea what I am doing.

TL;DR artinmotiononline.org is my domain, it is in use, I want to redesign site in WordPress while other site is still running but how do I access it until I point my domain there?

Christinatullo,

Well it is actually better to use a subdomain because you can make use of the database once you get it all down.

Example: I have a customer and they want an updated site. So I create a subdomain with the new site and show the client once it is all setup. Then we can adjust the new site for what ever they request. Then I backup the old site “just in case” and push the subdomain site to the root of the old site making it the new.

Domain = The Root world wide web facing. This is the main site!
Subdomain = This is a domain that is on a directory all by itself with full scripting like the root domain.

Names is as follows Root = http://www.domain.com or domain.com etc.
the subdomain is http://www.subdomain.domain.com or subdomain.domain.com

Hello,

In this situation, I would use a sub-domain (maybe beta.artinmotiononline.org). The way it works is when you create the subdomain, it creates a folder inside of your public_html directory. Simply do all of your work inside of the new folder. You can then access your work by going to the sub-domain in your browser of choice.
